Carol Jean Corsale

unknown - March 7, 2013

Carol Jean Terwilliger Corsale, 88, passed peacefully on March 7, 2013, after a very long illness. She lived most of her adult life in Springfield, Ill., and her final years at the Oregon Veterans Home in The Dalles, Ore.
Carol was born in Wauwatosa, Wis.; her parents were Frederick and Alma Terwilliger. During her youth, Carol’s family lived in Milwaukee, Wis. She met her future husband, Jim, at a dance on Valentine’s Day hosted by her church. At the time, Jim was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base.
Carol and Jim loved to dance to big band music and made a fine looking couple. They were married on April 6, 1946, in Milwaukee, and spent their honeymoon at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center with Jim’s younger brother Joey, who was recovering from extensive injuries received during the Battle of the Bulge.
They made their first home together in Madison, Wis., where Jim pursued his bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin and Carol worked as a secretary. After his graduation, the couple moved to Springfield, Ill., where they started a family and put down roots.
Carol was a life-long member of the First Congregational Church in Springfield, Ill. Through her participation at church, she became actively involved in Meals on Wheels and after-school tutoring of primary school children, both she held dear. At 50 she decided to learn tennis and played well into her 70s three to four times a week.
Carol’s greatest pleasures in life were tending her flowers, raising her children, serving her church, celebrating holidays, traveling, reading voraciously, playing tennis, golfing, swimming, rooting for the Chicago Cubs, long beach walks, spoiling her grandchildren and spending time with her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister Vinette and brother Fred Terwilliger.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Corsale, her three children and their spouses, Dr. Mark J. Corsale and Dr. Chuck Heath, Janet C. Corsale and Joanie Thomson, Elizabeth A. Corsale and Peter Dippery, and her three grandchildren, Bree J. Corsale, Emily L. Corsale and Gabe T. Corsale Dippery.
Carol was laid to rest on March 12 under sunny skies at the Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River, Ore., after a simple ceremony attended by Jim, her children and friends.
