Our dear mother, Elaine W. Higgins, passed away April 12, 2013, in Vancouver Wash. She was born March 4, 1930, in Albany, Ore., to Elmer and Martha Widmer.
In 1955 Elaine graduated from Whitworth College with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian education/sacred music. She was married to Jim H. Higgins on May 12, 1957.
Together they raised their four daughters in Parkdale, Ore., on the family fruit orchard. Our dad preceded her in death on June 30, 1994.
As a young girl, Elaine learned to play the piano, which she practiced and accompanied throughout her lifetime. She also enjoyed playing her vibraharp and accordion.
From church socials to driving tractor in the orchard, she never stopped learning; later graduating in the first class of women who were taught computer skills by Portland businesses.
Elaine is survived by her four daughters: Karlyn (Ryan) Rombalski, Dawn (Ken) Joling, Krystn (Cart) Nelsen and Raquel (Dennis) DeWitt; 10 loving grandchildren and three great-grandsons; she is also survived by her two brothers, Ray (Sylvia) Widmer and Elwood (Dinah) Widmer.
We all would like to invite friends and family as we celebrate our mother’s life on Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at the Upper Valley Cemetery in Parkdale, Ore.
