Michael Duane Vanderslice, 50, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital surrounded by those he loved. He will be greatly missed by his many family and friends.
Michael was born Sept. 14, 1963, in Jackson County, Kansas, to Raymond and Gwendolyn Vanderslice. After receiving his high school education, he entered the Marine Corps and served our country from 1981 to 1988.
Michael was employed by Rosauers in Hood River for the last seven years as a cashier. In his spare time he enjoyed playing guitar, singing, watching television, listening to heavy metal music, coin collecting, camping, hiking, and spending time with his family.
Michael is survived by his children: James Vanderslice, Jason Vanderslice and Jessica Vanderslice, of Hood River; his companion, Dawn Mathias, of Hood River; brothers Timothy Vanderslice, of Hood River, Ray Vanderslice and William Vanderslice, of Vancouver, Wash.; sisters Belinda Vanderslice, of Portland, Ore., and Bonnie Busch, of Arkansas; and his granddaughter, Trinity Troxel, of Hood River.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gwendolyn Vanderslice.
A celebration of Michael’s life is planned for Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center, with Reverend Randy Lee officiating. A reception will follow.
The family suggests that donations may be made in care of the family.
