Frances Elizabeth Hankins, 90, passed away peacefully Feb. 17, 2013, in Hood River, Ore. Frances was born May 31, 1922, in Glentworth, Saskatchewan, Canada, to John and Marie Schmidt Agopsowicz.
On Aug. 23, 1943, she married Clell Hankins in Edmonton, Calgary. They moved from Canada to Missouri with stays in Louisiana, Nevada and Texas before moving to Oregon. Clell passed away in 1996.
Frances worked for Luhr-Jensen, local packing houses and retail stores in Hood River over the years as well as being an active wife and mother. She loved to play bingo, do crossword puzzles, sew, work in her garden, read and have lunch with friends. Frances always followed Mariners baseball.
Frances is survived and will be dearly missed by her five children: Don Hankins, of Clinton, La., Betty (and husband, Dave) Thomas, of Hood River, Ore., Barbara Purdie, of Parkdale, Ore., Lydia (and husband, Mike) Kimlinger, of Salem, Ore., and Lani (and wife, Nadine) Hankins, of Lincoln City, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and a granddaughter.
A celebration of Frances’ life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Anderson’s Tribute Center (address below). Pastor Bruce Parker of First Baptist Church will officiate.
