Norma “Pat” Syverson
March 17, 1922 - February 15, 2013
Norma “Pat” Syverson, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, in Hood River, Ore. Pat had moved to Hood River and resided at Hawks Ridge Assisted Living since October 2010.
Pat was born in Toppenish, Wash., on March 17, 1922. She married Oscar Syverson in Yakima, Wash., on Oct. 11, 1940. Together they made their home on Dekker Road in Outlook, Wash., where they farmed for more than 30 years. They retired in 1980 and moved into Sunnyside, Wash.
Pat and Oscar were inseparable. They were farmers and very proud of how they earned their living. They never complained and were always thankful for their blessings. Pat farmed alongside Oscar every day. When the crops were in, they found time to hunt, fish and camp with their two children and other family members.
Pat is survived by two children: daughter, Bonnie (Tom) Lanctot, of Hood River, Ore. and son, Jack (Terri) Syverson, of Roseville, Calif.; five grandchildren: Jeff (Lisa) Lanctot, Marci (Brian) Walker, Luke (Natalie) Syverson, Adam Syverson and Carly (Matt) Garreffa; and eight great-grandchildren: Elsa, Syver and Petra Lanctot, Chloe and Lola Walker, Tegan and Nolan Syverson and Maximus Garreffa.
She also is survived by three sisters: Peggy Harris, of Moses Lake, Addie Adams, of Pullman, and Pearle Ziegan, of Cle Elum.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, who passed away in 1991, and three brothers: George, Bud, Bill Jones, and two sisters; Ruth Jones and Dulcie Eagle.
At Pat’s request there will be no services. There will be family graveside services at a later date. Pat’s final resting place will be next to her husband, Oscar, in the Zillah Cemetery.
The family is very appreciative of the love and affection shown Pat by the staff and residents of Hawks Ridge Assisted Living and by Providence Hospice of the Gorge.
Burial and graveside services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home Ltd. and Crematory in Sunnyside.
