Laura “Jeanne” Chapman, 86, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at the Hood River Care Center surrounded by those she loved. Jeanne was born March 3, 1927, in Arcata, Calif., to Edward A. and Willene Robey (York).
The family is planning a private ceremony at a later date.
Jeanne grew up in the Bay Area, and also lived in the Salem area for more than 20 years. She moved to Hood River two years ago to be closer to family.
Jeanne graduated from Castlemont High School, and began working in property management until retirement.
In 1967 Jeanne married Richard Chapman at the Chapel of the Bells in Reno, Nev.
She enjoyed square dancing, bowling and crochet, and mostly valued the time she spent with family; even following her parents as they moved from different locations. She also adored her small dogs, Mandy and Lacy.
The family remembers Jeanne for her good nature, sense of humor and that she loved to tease.
Jeanne is survived and will be dearly missed by her three sons, Gary Swager and his wife, Mary, of Danville, Calif., Ken Swager and his wife, Lael, of Hood River, and Scott Swager, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; nine grandchildren: Lori, Tom, Jason, Jeff, Melissa, Stephen, Eric, Angela and Jill; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, sister, JoAnne, and brother-in-law, Len.
Memorials are encouraged to be made in the name of Laura Jeanne Chapman to Providence Hospice of the Gorge.
