Nancy June Smith, 94, passed away Saturday, Sept, 14, 2013, at the Life Care Center in Kennewick, Wash. Nancy was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Miami, Okla., to Louis and Caroline Logan.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the family home at 42 Mt. View Road in Lyle, Wash.
Nancy grew up in Miami, Okla., and graduated from the local Native American High School in 1937. On July 24, 1938 she married Aubrey Smith and they had two children, Carol and Sonny. They moved from Oklahoma to Hood River, Ore., in 1945.
Nancy worked at the local nursing home here in Hood River which was called Hanby’s at the time, and later worked as a ward clerk at the Hood River Memorial Hospital where she retired.
She and Aubrey enjoyed their coffee time together, religiously having their morning coffee at Rosauers and afternoon coffee at Walmart. They enjoyed their grandchildren’s (and great-grandchildren’s) baseball and football games, rarely missing a home game.
Family describes Nancy as full of the dickens, fun-loving and a very loving grandmother; even helping raise her great-grandson, Chris (Bubba) Smith, while in her 80s.
Nancy is survived and will be dearly missed by her children: daughter, Carol, and her husband, Bill Williams, of Helix, Ore., and son, Sonny Smith, and his wife, Rhonda, of Lyle, Wash.; four grandsons: Jeffrey Iles, Tim Smith, Jeremy Smith and Nathan Smith; 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey, who passed away in January 2008 after 69 years of marriage, and her sister, Jo Cata, of Miami, Okla.
