Matthew Lane Petty, 17, passed away suddenly on March 18, 2014. He was born in White Salmon, Wash., on Oct. 30, 1996, to Janette Sheryl (Lane) and Michael Lee Petty.
Matthew was a junior at Columbia High School and was a member of the cross country and track teams. He also enjoyed snowboarding, riding quads, welding and tinkering on things.
Matthew worked as a caretaker at the Lyle Community Center.
He will be missed by his parents, Michael and Janette, of Lyle; sister Leanne Garcia and her son Isaias Michael, of The Dalles; grandparents Bernard and Pat Lane, of Seattle; grandmother Pat Petty, of Cottonwood, Ariz.; aunts and uncles Leta and Robert Riggleman, of Hood River, Ore., and Diane and Neal Cunningham, of Seattle; uncle Jim Lane, of Seattle; and cousins Tara, Jesse, Aiden and Caleum Krieger of Hood River.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 22, at the Lyle Celebration Center in Lyle, Wash. Matthew was buried in a private ceremony at Lyle Balch Cemetery.
