Charles Arthur “Chuck” Woods, 85, passed away Nov. 28, 2014, at his home in Hood River, Ore. He was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Eufaula, Okla., to Everett and Gerthie Mae (Nelson) Woods. The family moved to Hood River in 1931.
In 1946 Charles joined the Army and served in the Korean War.
On Nov. 21, 1965, Charles married Mildred Ann (Rogers) in Hood River, and together they raised seven children.
Chuck worked as a maintenance foreman for the Bonneville Dam. He was active in the American Legion, Elks Lodge and Masonic Lodge and was a volunteer firefighter. He and Mildred were also active in Hood River Valley Christian Church.
Chuck is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Mildred Wood, of Hood River; children Susan Stone and her husband, Bob, of Hood River, Debbie Burt, of Virginia Beach, Va., James Woods, of Hood River, Melissa Warren and her husband, Joe, of Carson, Wash., Paul Woods and his wife, Patty, of Portland, Ore., Doug Woods, of Gaston, Ore., and Roger Woods, of The Dalles, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a host of distant family and many, many friends that he has collected over the years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Woods.
A Celebration of Life Service for Charles will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Hood River Valley Christian Church, 975 Indian Creek Road, Hood River.
Memorials are encouraged to be made in memory of Charles to the Hood River Fire Department or Providence Hospice of the Gorge.
