Loyd Henry Hagen U.S. Veteran

August 18, 1935 - November 30, 2014

Loyd Henry Hagen, 79, passed away Nov. 30, 2014, at his home in Hood River, Ore., surrounded by his loved ones. Loyd was born Aug. 18, 1935, in North Howell, Ore., to Henry and Lucille (Waltman) Hagen.
Loyd grew up in the Salem, Ore., area raised by his grandparents. At age 17 Loyd convinced his grandmother to sign documents so he could enlist in the military. However, he was not successful in enlisting at that time, so after turning 18 he enlisted in the Air Force serving in San Diego and Sacramento, Calif. Loyd completed three tours in Vietnam, including the Tet Offensive. After retiring from the Air Force, Loyd became a certified locksmith and started his own business named Loyd’s Locks.
Loyd married Jeanne (Snelling) in Reno, Nev., on May 5, 1979. They have resided in Hood River for the past 15 years, sharing many wonderful memories together. Loyd enjoyed gardening and locksmithing. He volunteered at the Gorge Rebuild-It Center rekeying donated lock sets. Loyd loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband and an awesome stepdad and grandfather.
Loyd is survived by his wife, Jeanne Hagen, of Hood River; stepdaughter Linda Snelling, of Providence, R.I., stepsons Steven Snelling, of San Francisco, Calif., and Diedrick Snelling, of Hood River; granddaughters Jane Snelling, Claire Snelling and Charlene Roser, of Hood River, Megan Snelling, of Portland, Ore., and Sachie and Mia Springwater-Snelling, of Providence, R.I.; great-granddaughter Hannah Roser, of Hood River; sister Donna Jurgenson, of Portland, Ore.; and brother Ed Hagen, of Prineville, Ore.
A military honors memorial service is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR 97086.
