Ronald F. Engle, 80, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at his home in Hood River, Ore., after a valiant fight with cancer. Ron was born on April 10, 1933, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Kenneth and Lucy (Moyer) Engle.
Ron received his general education in the Phoenix, Ariz., school district, and shortly after, enlisted in the Air Force where he earned the rank of staff sergeant.
On July 16, 1959, Ron married Bettie Jeane (Durham) Engle in Mesa, Ariz. Ron worked for many years at the General Motors Desert Proving Ground in Mesa. Ron also resided in Vacaville, Calif.; and in 1988, Ron and his family moved to Hood River, Ore.
In his free time Ron enjoyed anything that had to do with mechanics, and as his loved ones well know; his favorite hobby was cars, cars, cars.
Ron is survived and will be sorely missed by his daughter, Mary Lou Mathis, of Portland, Ore.; granddaughter Bethany Mathis, of La Grande, Ore.; grandsons Brandon and Tyler Mathis, of Portland, Ore.; and brother Tom Engle, of McKinney, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Jeane Engle, son Mark Engle, parents Ken and Lucy Engle, and his brother Jim Engle.
Memorial services are planned for Monday, Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River.
