Betty Darlene Adams, 85, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, surrounded by those she loved at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital in Hood River, Ore. Betty was born July 14, 1928, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to Iver and Wilma (Rhoades) Koger.
Services are planned for 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, with viewing prior from 9-11 a.m. in the chapel; burial will follow the ceremony at Pine Grove Butte Cemetery. All are invited to join family for a reception following the graveside at River of Life Assembly, 979 Tucker Road, Hood River.
Betty grew up in Pocatello, Idaho, and moved to Hood River in 1943. She returned to Pocatello in 1949 where she married and raised her family. In 1970 she and her family returned to Hood River, where Betty was the happiest, and lived there until her death.
She attended Hood River High School.
In Pocatello, she married Edward Adams March 16, 1950, having their honeymoon in Paris — Paris, Idaho, that is. They have been newlyweds ever since, going to bed with a kiss and saying “See you the morning”; breakfast prayers included “Thank you for another day with my bride.”
Betty enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. She never knew a stranger. She made friends with everyone who came into her life and everyone loved her. She always had fresh cookies baked or a loaf of homemade bread that she would offer to anyone who came to her home — including repairmen.
She loved music and always said there was a song to fit every event in life. She loved and trusted the Lord her entire life.
Betty is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband of 64 years, Edward Adams; daughters Christine Adams, of Vancouver, Wash., and Cynthia Poole and her husband, Donald, of Hood River; sons Clinton Adams and his wife, Marjie, of The Dalles, Ore., and Clifton Adams of Hood River; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathleen Adams, grandson Jacob Poole, brother Clayton Koger, sister Berneda Haight, brother Laurence Koger and her parents.
Memorials are encouraged to be made in Betty’s name to the American Heart Association.
