Lydia Vallier Cagle

August 5, 1928 - June 2, 2014

Lydia Vallier (Gaines) Cagle, 85, of Odell, Ore., passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Hood River Care Center in Hood River, Ore., into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lydia was born on Aug. 5, 1928, in Keo, Ark., to Arthur Elzie Gaines and Lela Ezell.
On March 14, 1946, Lydia married Marvin L. “Tom” Cagle in McAllister, Okla. Throughout the years, Lydia resided in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Texas, California and Oregon.
Lydia was a fruit packer for many years at the Lage Orchards — a job she enjoyed immensely. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, painting, flower gardening, fishing, reading, and was very proud of the fact that she was given her first computer at age 70!
She never met a stranger and loved having people drop in to visit. Lydia was especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lydia is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, Marvin; daughter Carla Kragness and Mike Swanzy, of Eugene, Ore., son Carl (Carmen) Cagle, of The Dalles, Ore., daughter Lela Hulahan and Mike Sherman, of Florence, Ore., daughter Lara (Steve) Cushing, of Federal Way, Wash., son James (Jan) Cagle, of Eugene, Ore., and daughter Mary Lou (Mike) Cooley, of Grants Pass, Ore.; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her sisters, Callie (Euell) Watts, Donita Sudderth and Anna Adams.
Lydia is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Truman Gaines and Aaron Gaines; sister Ruth Woody; and granddaughter Jennifer Lyddon Isaacson.
Memorial services to celebrate Lydia’s life are set for Saturday, June 21, at 1:30 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center, with Pastor Bobby Beauchamp officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals, Receptions, Cremations), 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031; 541-386-1000. Please visit andersonstributecenter.com to leave a note of condolence for family.
