Evelyn May Shaw, 93, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at an adult care home in The Dalles, Ore., surrounded by her daughter and caregivers. Evelyn was born Jan. 10, 1921, to Andrew and Lucy (Mason) Jensen in Wyndmere, N.D.
A public visitation is planned for Wednesday, May 7, from 1-4 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave. A funeral service will be held at the same location the following day, May 8, at 1 p.m., with a reception to follow. A private family graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.
Evelyn grew up in North Dakota, attending the local school, then moved to Hood River in 1936 and worked as a packer in the fruit industry prior to retirement.
Evelyn married Raymond A. Shaw June 13, 1940, in Hood River.
Evelyn enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, camping and fishing, and loved to work in her garden. She was passionate about her family, friends and church.
Evelyn was loving, quiet and stern when needed.
Evelyn is survived and will be dearly missed by her son, Raymond (Richard) Shaw, and his wife, Jackie, of Hood River; her daughter, Barbara Laney, and her husband, Loren, of Hood River; her sister, Alvina Slaughter, of Middleton, Idaho; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; along with other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 2003; and four brothers and two sisters.
Memorials are encouraged to be made in Evelyn’s name to Heart of Hospice in care of Anderson’s Tribute Center.
