Mildred Ann Woods, 78, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, in Hood River, Ore., surrounded by beloved family members. Mildred was born April 1, 1937, in Stevenson, Wash., to Royce Ralph and Barbara Jean (Crapper Smith) Rogers.
Mildred graduated from Hood River High School and first married in June 1955 to Earl Andrew Richards. During the 10-year union they had James Andrew, Douglas Allyn, Melissa Ann and Paul Arthur.
Mildred married Charles “Chuck” Arthur Woods Nov. 21, 1965, in Stevenson, Wash. They had Roger Edward. Included in their blended family Chuck and Mildred raised daughters Susan Ann and Deborah Marie.
She went on to become president of American Legion, president of the Lionesses, president of Soroptimists, and president of Emblem Club. She was also the last charter member of Hood River Valley Christian Church. Mildred’s career included her mother’s Leonora Dress Shop, Sears, Bev’s Flower Basket, and Radio Shack.
Mildred is survived and will be dearly missed by children Susan Stone and her husband, Bob, of Hood River, Debbie Burt, of Virginia Beach, Va., James Woods, of Hood River, Melissa Warren and her husband, Joe, of Carson, Wash., Paul Woods and his wife, Patty, of Portland, Ore., Doug Woods, of Gaston, Ore., and Roger Woods, of The Dalles, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a host of distant family and many, many friends that she has loved over the years.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Royce and Barbara; beloved brother William Royce; and by her husband, Chuck.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mildred will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Hood River Valley Christian Church, 975 Indian Creek Road, Hood River, with a reception to follow. Graveside will then be held at Idlewilde Cemetery, 980 Tucker Road, Hood River.
Memorials are encouraged to be made in memory of Mildred to Providence Hospice of the Gorge, 1630 Woods Court, Hood River.
