Eula “Rae” Jackson, 84, passed away Dec. 26, 2014, at Hawks Ridge Assisted Living in Hood River, Ore. She was surrounded by her surviving children as well as other members of the family. Rae was born May 17, 1930, in Wheeler, Texas, to Preston and Etta Jackson. She grew up in Texas attending school there before moving to California, Arizona, Montana and finally settling in Oregon.
Rae was once an excellent bowler, and she shared this sport with her husband of 35 years, Fred. She was twice the president of the Parent-Teacher Association in Redondo Beach, Calif. She was Cub Scout den mother more than once, and team mom as well.
Rae met Harlan Pitts about 25 years ago, and they were partners until he passed away earlier this year. She also served on the Mosier City Council in her late 70s. She made friends quickly — often with those half her age. Her feisty personality and sense of humor were loved by all who knew her, but her greatest gift was being a loving and supportive mother and grandmother.
She worked in medical billing for several doctors and medical groups. She loved this work, and she prided herself on getting every nickel she could for her employers. This often resulted in hugs and occasional raises.
Rae loved animals, especially her cats. She also enjoyed knitting, crafts and bingo. She was raised in the Baptist faith, and she remained a Christian all of her life. Her love of animals encouraged her to be a member of the Humane Society.
Rae is survived by her three children: Steve Jackson, from Oceanside, Calif., Kay Nunez, from Carson, Calif., and Chris Jackson and his wife, Cary, from Hood River, Ore. Rae has seven grandchildren: Damian Jackson, April Abercrombie, Erika McDaris, Travis Jackson, Candice Miles, August Jackson and Madison Jackson. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Jackson; son, Richard Jackson; two daughters-in-law, Debra Harris and Bonnie Jackson; and partner, Harlan Pitts.
