Dustin James Hinkley, the oldest of four sons born to David and Janet (Slack) Hinkley, was born on Nov. 19, 1976, and passed away Oct. 11, 2015, at his home in Parkdale.
Dustin was born in Hood River and attended Parkdale Elementary, Wy’east Junior High and Hood River Valley High School, graduating in 1996. As a youth, Dustin participated in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, making the All-Star teams every year. In high school he excelled in soccer and wrestling, lettering in each sport all four years. As an adult, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
After graduation, Dustin joined the U.S. Army National Guard. On Dec. 26, 2003, prior to his deployment to Iraq, he suffered a massive cerebral aneurysm, while home on leave for Christmas. After four years of hospitalization, rehab and assisted living homes, Dustin received an honorable discharge and returned home to live with his parents in Parkdale. The past 10 years he has lived his life, although limited, to his fullest capabilities.
Dustin was preceded in death by his infant brother, Jason; grandparents Wes and Lil Hinkley and Hod and Betty Slack; uncle Rick Hinkley; cousin Mike Hull; and great-grandma Bessie Level.
Dustin is survived by his parents; brothers Ryan (Jennifer and Kayden) Hinkley and Jared (Lisa) Hinkley and nephew, Talon Hinkley; aunt, Susan (Lynn) Spellman, uncles Joe Hinkley and Tom (Lori) Slack; and cousins Wes and Clinton Hinkley, Monte Hull and Coral and Brandon Slack.
Dustin will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him, including his four miniature schnauzers, Dolly, Jazzy, Ricky and Buddy.
