On the evening of April 3, 2016, Nannette Christina Mortensen earned her heavenly wings when she passed away after a five-year battle with cancer, surrounded by family in her home in Mosier, Ore. Nannette was 45 years old.
Nannette was born in the city of Oceanside, Calif., on March 26, 1971. She was the first child and daughter of Judy Johnson, later assuming the role of matriarch for her three siblings, Sasha Maher, Toria Johnston, and Trapper Elmquist.
Nannette moved to Oregon in 1987, and two years later she graduated from Hood River Valley High School. In 1992, she was blessed by the birth of her son Cody Mitchell Vieira. The Lord blessed Nannette again in 2000 with the birth of her daughter, Jayde Nicole Marx. Nannette also graduated from Phagan School of Cosmetology in 2000, fulfilling her passion for touching hearts with her epic hair designs and beauty expertise. In 2014, she achieved her goal of opening her own salon, Epic Styling.
In 2008, Nannette met her best friend, her soul mate, and the love of her life, Mikie Mortensen. Married on June 23, 2013, they shared a home in Moiser with daughter Jayde and their two dogs, Diego and Maddie.
Nannette enjoyed a wide variety of outdoor activities, including motorcycle riding, fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, biking, working out, paddle boarding, riding horses and hanging out at the beach. As a matter of fact, if it included the outdoors, sun, family, or church, you would find Nannette there with a smile on her face.
Nannette attended church with her family at the River of Life Assembly of God. There they were blessed with an amazing church family who would go above and beyond to help in any way they could.
Nannette is survived by her husband Mikie Mortensen; son Cody Vieira and wife Brittany Viera; daughter Jayde Marx; sister Sasha Maher and husband Danny; sister Toria Johnston and husband Jason; brother Trapper Elmquist and wife Leah; as well as nephews Jonah and Jakob Maher, Wyatt and Rylen Johnston, and Evan Elmquist, and nieces Zayleah Johnston and Arceli Tirado. Nannette also leaves behind her in-laws Alex and Sue Mortensen, Steve and Elaine Chase, Billy Mortensen, Kim, Ashley, Alex Wayne, and Cookie Gilpatrick and the Lee Family.
Nannette is preceded in death by her mother Judy Ann Johnson in 1985, maternal grandfather A.J. Johnson in 1993, and maternal grandmother Bertha Johnson in 2009.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Rev. 21:4
A memorial service will be held for Nannette at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 8 at River of Life Assembly of God, 979 Tucker Road.
