Arlette Claflin, 66, of Norfolk, Va., died Dec. 5, 2017, after a 13 year struggle with cancer. She passed peacefully at home in the loving care of her family.
Arlette was the daughter of the late Cecil and Helen Snow; she was also preceded in death by a sister, Connie Ten-Eyck, of El Paso, Texas.
She is survived by David Claflin, her husband of 43 years; son Erick Claflin (Christina) of Newport News, Va.; son Jeremy Claflin of Norfolk; nephew Sean Miller of El Paso ; and four beloved rescue cats.
Arlette grew up on a modest farm in the foothills of Mt. Hood, Ore. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1975 and later earned a master’s degree from Boston University. She enjoyed a lifelong interest in writing, photography and travel. Among her favorite activities in recent years were antique dealing and serving as a poll worker for the Norfolk Office of Elections.
An informal gathering of family and friends will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
