Kathleen “Kathy” Ann Winkel was born Dec. 8, 1954, in Peoria, Ill. She lived in Hood River, Ore., for many years. She passed away after a long illness on March 5, 2017, in Portland, Ore.
Kathy graduated from nursing school at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1975. She worked as head nurse in pediatrics. After becoming a registered nurse, she worked in the emergency room in Lewison, The Dalles, Ore., and Port Angeles, Wash. She was considered an excellent nurse and was always willing to help the nursing team.
Kathy was an active member of the Christ of Christ in Hood River, and had the love of Christ in her heart. She loved hiking, reading, anything with fairies, singing and listening to classic rock and roll, cooking and being with her children.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Larry Winkel, Odell, Ore., daughter Monica Tyler, Sequim, Wash., and Molly Tyler, Portland, Ore. Surviving siblings are Diana Martin, Fort Worth, Texas, Tom Deal, Portland, Tim Deal, Spokane, Wash., and Rosemary Gage, Palouse, Wash. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Beverly Deal, her brother Daniel Deal and sister Madelyn Chesser.
A memorial service will be held March 18 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 1512 Tucker Rd., Hood River. The family suggests that remembrances be sent to the American Diabetes Foundation or to Hood River Church of Christ.
