Charles Alford “Chuck” Weatherly passed away at his home in Hood River, Ore., on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at the age of 71.
Chuck was born Feb. 11, 1946, in Inglewood, Calif., to Floyd Alford and Lydia Lenora (Stephens) Weatherly. He was raised in Hawthorne, Calif., and graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1963, where he learned the printing trade and printed the school newspaper. He was a drummer in the school band and also played in the school dance band.
He met Betty Severance in 1962 and they were married on Valentine's Day in 1964. He worked in the printing business in California and in 1972 opened his own shop in Torrance and later in Westminster, Calif.
Chuck and Betty had homes in Harbor City and Fountain Valley and enjoyed riding their horses at his sister Margrette and brother-in-law Jim Morlock's ranch. Their first two children, Eileen and Paul, were born in California prior to the family moving to Oregon, where they added Rachel and Lora.
Chuck opened Weatherly Printing after the family moved to Hood River in 1976. He often opened his business to help others with on-the-job training programs, as well as lending his expertise for various community service projects. Chuck enjoyed camping and participating in Bible studies and the seniors’ group activities at church. He loved to build and fly model airplanes and was a member of the Columbia Gorge Aeromodeler's Club. Chuck accomplished his long-time dream of flying a real airplane in 2000 when he received his pilot's license. He was an active member of the Hood River Alliance Church, then later of Faith Bible Church, where he served as deacon and church treasurer. Chuck was a quiet man of strong faith in Jesus Christ. He was faithful, loyal, honest, self-sacrificing and lovingly kind to everyone he knew.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lenora Weatherly, a brother, Robert Dale Weatherly, and a sister, Margrette Rose Morlock.
He leaves behind a wife of 53 years, Betty; children Eileen and her husband Ken Jacobs, Paul Weatherly, and Rachel Weatherly, all of Hood River; Lora and her husband Will Aman of Bremerton, Wash.; his grand-children Wesley, Kaylee, and Lillie Jacobs and Gabriel, Lydia, and Naomi Aman; a sister, Patsy Welter, of Visalia, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Jim Morlock, of Anza, Calif.; brother-in-law Neal Severance and his wife Julie of Simi Valley, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Faith Bible Church, located at 1889 Belmont Drive in Hood River, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. He will be laid to rest at the Pine Grove Butte Cemetery.
