Betty June Christensen was born to Luther and Beatrice Cease in Michigan on Dec. 14, 1929, at the start of the Depression and knew how to make things stretch. She moved to Oregon at the age of 13 and graduated from Hood River High School in 1948.
She had four children, Tina, Julie, David and Dan, in the 1950s, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother for both of her sons.
She became a secretary for Marion County and the State of Oregon.
She enjoyed walking and talking with the people she met and making pickles and preserves with family. She liked to watch golf, take trips to the coast and cook up a mean dish of salmon.
She lived in the Salem area the majority of her life. She always had something to say about everything, enjoyed meeting new people and telling her stories to them.
She was a definite night owl, preferring late nights and even later mornings.
Betty is survived by children Tina and Dan, along with her brother, Jack. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, daughter, Julie Giebel, son, David Johnsen, and brother, Luther Cease.
A celebration of life was held at Keizer Funeral Chapel on Aug. 4.
