Mark Lee Miner U.S. Veteran

March 16, 1948 - December 15, 2018

Mark Lee Miner passed away at the age of 70 on Dec. 15, 2018, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

He was born the youngest of three on March 16, 1948, to Amos and Juanita (Morris) Miner in Roseburg, Ore. At the age of 10, he moved with his family to The Dalles, when his father purchased a radiator shop.

He attended Wahtontka High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Sally Buehner, and graduated in 1966. On Sept. 11, 1967, he signed up for the Army. After Basic Training, he was stationed in Fort Lee, Va., for advanced training.

In the spring of 1968, while home on leave, Mark and Sally were married on March 1 and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They were stationed in Illesheim, Germany, for a year before he was transferred to Fort Lewis, Wash.

After three years of service, he and Sally moved to Rowena, and then later to Mosier, where they built a home to raise their two children.

They moved to The Dalles in 1991. He began his career with the United States Postal Service in October 1970 and, for the next 36 years, worked as a mail carrier in Hood River.

After he retired and enjoyed a couple of years off, he started a part time job at the Optimist Printers, where he spent the next 15 years running press, maintenance, doing deliveries and anything else that he was asked to complete. If there was a task that needed to be done, he was first in line making it happen. He was a key piece of the puzzle in the day-to-day operation and the relocation of the business in 2012.

Mark enjoyed fishing and hunting, but stopped hunting as he grew older because of his love of animals.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, camping, hiking, wind surfing, and riding his Harley. His greatest love in life was the time he spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents (Amos and Juanita Miner) and his father-in-law (Edward Buehner).

He is survived by his wife, Sally (Buehner) Miner, The Dalles; son, Corey Miner, and daughter-in-law, Jenifer, Kuna, Idaho; daughter, Angie Miner Herriges, and son-in-law, Matt, The Dalles; sister, Judi Miner McKinney, Delta, British Columbia; brother, Dennis Miner, and sister-in-law, Anna, Skamania, Wash.; grandchildren, Zach Miner, Abi Herriges, Megan Miner and Ellie Trujillo; several in-laws; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Charlie.

A Catholic Mass and graveside service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in The Dalles on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 11:30 a.m. A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church Parish Center. All who knew him are welcome to attend either or both services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be given in the form of donations to Home at Last Humane Society in The Dalles, or to Reel Recovery.org.
