Herbert “Herb” Martin passed away with family by his side July 11, 2018, at his home in Odell, Ore. He was 74 years of age at the time of his passing.
Herb was born Sept. 12, 1943, in Pyatt, Ark., to Herbert LaFayte Martin and Eunice Katherine Bigby. He was one of eight children and had numerous friends. Herb lived in Arkansas and Washington until finally calling Hood River home in 1965.
Herb married Carolyn Rae Ables on Dec. 1, 1961, in Union Gap, Wash. He worked at Hanel’s Mill as a millwright for 24 years until his retirement. Herb loved the outdoors and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold panning, shooting and camping with his family.
Herb is survived by his wife, Carol Martin; his four children, Annette, Caroline, Michael and Nelson; his grandchildren, Sierra, Trinity, Ethan and Michael Jr.; siblings, Terry, Joyce and Ricky; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert “Buster” Martin and Eunice Martin; and siblings, Billy Joe, Vera, Gladys and Larry.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on July 16 at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River. Jeff Phipps will officiate the service.
Graveside services will be private at Idlewilde, 980 Tucker Road, Hood River.
