Laurie “Hoss” Hartman Campbell passed away with family by his side on Nov. 19, 2018, at Portland’s St. Vincent Medical Center. Hoss was born on Aug. 7, 1938, and was 80 years of age at the time of his passing.
Hoss was born in Hood River, Ore., to Carl Clifford and Aili Esther (Kotila) Campbell. As a little guy, he lived with his parents at a logging camp in Detroit, Ore. He grew up in Hood River and later married in Mount Hood-Parkdale. Hoss married Gloria Young in June of 1962; they have been married 56 years and were blessed with two children.
Hoss loved to play Texas Hold‘em and go to casinos. He also loved to travel and had visited most of the U.S., including Alaska, Puerto Rico, St. Croix and Canada. He spent his working career as a heavy equipment operator and did highway maintenance for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). Family shared that Hoss built many of the back roads in Hood River County. Hoss also spent time working in the logging industry. He was a quiet, lovable guy who had many friends. Hoss will be so missed by his family and friends.
Hoss is survived by his wife, Gloria Young, of Mount-Hood-Parkdale; son, Jeff Campbell (Jenn Franco) of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Lori Jean Campbell (Dave Johnson) of Hood River; grandchildren, Olivia Campbell (Olivia was very special to him and they had a very close relationship) and George (aka Jack) Ullrich; siblings, Carol Campbell Petit, David L Campbell (Pat) and Karen Campbell Frazer (Ray); and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Aili Kotila Campbell; sister, Carol, and brother, David Campbell.
Hoss did not want a service, just a get together in the spring to reminisce and remember the good times. An announcement will be made later on when arrangements are made for the get together.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations), 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River. Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
