The family of Janet Gallipo Ferguson are deeply saddened to say that she passed away in Reno, Nev., from complications of diabetes on July 21, 2018. She was predeceased by her son, Blake, who passed in 1991 (Seaside, Ore.); and by her father, Leslie Raymond Gallipo, and mother, Jean Stark Gallipo, who both passed in 1997 (Lake Oswego, Ore.).
Jan was born Sept. 25, 1942, in Berkeley, Calif., and graduated in 1960 from Wy’east High School in Hood River, Ore. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Lewis & Clark College and her MSW (master’s in social work) from Portland State in Portland, Ore.
She taught school in Roseburg, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash., and was employed as a licensed social worker in Portland and for the State of Alaska. Retiring to Reno, she spent her last years traveling, attending family reunions and researching the family genealogies (Gallipo and Hibbert).
She leaves behind her sister, Jean Gallipo Cookinham (Dennis), of Vancouver, and her brother, Leslie K. Gallipo (Sue), of Herndon W.Va.; she will be missed by numerous cousins and friends, including her former husband, Clyde Ferguson, of Portland and her close friend, Jim Harris, of Reno.
No memorial service is scheduled at this time.
