Shirley Kay Hinman passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at Providence Portland Medical Center with family by her side. She was born on March 4, 1953, in Hood River, Ore., to Eldon and Florence (Vetter) Roberts. She grew up and attended schools in the Hood River area, graduating from Hood River Valley High School.
Shirley married Hugh Hinman on Aug. 28, 1971. They had four girls, Angela, Sarah, Jolene and Melissa, who were all born and raised in Hood River.
Shirley was a stay at home mom, working various jobs, until she went to work for Diamond Fruit in 1984. She worked for Diamond until she retired. She enjoyed her work and her co-workers.
Shirley enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, making rugs and watching her children and grandchildren’s many sports and activities. But most of all, she loved spending time with her daughters and family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, her one and only love, Hugh Hinman in 1996, and by her two brothers and both her parents.
Shirley is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Angela Wheat and husband, Don; Sarah Leiblein and husband, Rob; Jolene Bich and husband, Michael; and Melissa Johnson and husband, Jeromy; grandchildren, Michelle (Wheat) Valenzuela, Ryan and Cody Wheat, Caden and Reese Leiblein, Elijah and Aubrianna Bich, and Cashton and Silver Johnson; sister, Linda Segura and husband, Gabe; sister, Regina; and many nieces and nephews.
Per Shirley’s wishes, there will not be a service. A private family gathering was held. We take comfort in knowing Mom and Dad are together again. There final resting place will be at Idlewilde Cemetery.
In memory of Shirley and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart of hospice sent to care of Anderson’s Funeral Home. Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
