Fine fuels like grass, shrubs and blackberry bushes are abundant this year due to wet spring weather. Above, firefighters work on a 2009 grass fire fueled by strong winds. Chief Devon Wells cautions about grass and blackberries in open lots, like below, that create fire hazards to nearby homes.
