On May 12, 1942 a Union Pacific train pulled into the Hood River railstation and 700 individuals of Japanese ancestry, citizens and resident aliens, were loaded aboard. The entire Japanese American community of Hood River was then transported to the Pinedale Assembly Center outside of Fresno, California for short-term housing. Later, most were interned long-term at the Tule Lake Relocation Camp.
