Street shoring: Crew from Northwest Soil Stabilization installs “soil nails” in the embankment on State Street Monday, as part of the Urban Renewal improvement project between Front and Second streets. A concrete slurry is poured through the soil nails to create columns that will link the retaining wall to the earth. Chain link fence is there to protect workers from rockfall, and will remain in place as a shoring layer. Meanwhile, rock removal continues at the city parking lot a block east; expect and daytime street detours, and more in-street activity in September.
