Photo detail

Don Durr of Hood River, a museum volunteer, installs the “new” sign Friday morning at Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum on Tucker Road in Hood River. The sign was removed last year from its original roost, a half-mile west, where for years it stood vacant after the 2000 closure of the Trail Drive-in. WAAAM volunteers spent months refurbishing the sign, which will have the WAAAM wings logo added at top right, along with spotlights mounted on the lower edge of the sign, just as it had in its drive-in days. The sign will be on full view just in time for the Sept. 6-7 Hood River Fly-In, sponsored by WAAAM.
