Motorists experienced relatively few problems on local roads and streets, according to county and city law enforcement, but slick conditions on the interstate, combined with high speeds, yielded dozens of wrecks between Cascade Locks and The Dalles. Fortunately, there were no reported serious injuries. Tow company owner Jason Shaner urged drivers to take it slow in coming days, as any thawing will create dangerous conditions as drivers drive at the same speed on bare sunlit pavement as they do on the shaded stretches, where hazardous black ice remains.
