HR July 4 Parade, start to finish
Here it is, a Hood River News first: An image of all 86 entries, in order, from the July 4 Hood River Parade. The first image is the candy-distribution ATV, a parade first, sponsored by the Hood River Veterans’ Service Office. Driving the vehicle are Sydney Nathey and Bradley Oppenheimer. Heading the parade was the military color guard (Brittany Douthit, left, Justin Bowlin, Denny Leonard and Carl Casey), and the Grand Marshals — dozens of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from throughout the Gorge.
Judges awarded the following entries:
Best Individual — trombonist Gary Regalbuto (in resplendent red and white band uniform); Kids — Phoenix Theater; Non-Profit — Hood River Beekeepers; Commercial — Ixtapa Restaurant; Music (tie) — Beat Goes On Marching Band, Hood River Latino Network.
(Apologies if our parade gallery missed anyone; also, note that where entries had multiple parts — and many did — we chose the best image, usually the one with the most faces. While we could count the number of entries, each ranged from 1 to 75 people each, putting the total parade participation at 600-700 or more people. Perhaps next year we’ll count them all!) — Kirby Neumann-Rea, editor
