Here we go again, people. I remember when the toll was 50 cents and they raised it while saying the same thing. Then when they raised it from 75 cents to a dollar, again the same thing. Later after raising it each time, they would say that getting a new bridge was too expensive and so the maintenance of the bridge was the only thing left. They also said that is was hard to get federal funding for a new bridge etc. etc. etc.
If I remember right, Washington re-did their end of the bridge and where going to get federal funds to help with a new bridge. They thought that the port was going to do the same.
What about the Sauvie Island bridge? They didn’t seem to have a hard time of getting funds for that.
The reason why the port is lying about replacing the bridge is because the bridge is their biggest moneymaker. Plain and simple as that. Especially now that they are going to raise the toll to two dollars it will double the money it brings in.
