Address the out-of-control housing costs created by some of the same business owners, and then they'll have room to talk.
There needs to be a very minimal number of short-term rentals permitted, with LARGE fees in place for those few that are approved, and said fee going directly toward creation of true affordable housing.
Meanwhile, they happily approve a big ugly box of a hotel right ON the waterfront, because it lines THEIR pockets, instead of providing jobs to LOCALS in the community.
Make that the REAL locals want you to regulate the crap outta the short-term rentals - while the will-NEVER-be-locals want to finish ruining the Gorge!
Well, you've got a library that reopened without its heart and soul - the former employees - and it has the added detriment of ridiculously high fines and short loan periods. On top of that, the children's programs and summer reading are pretty much non-existent compared to the former quality.
This deadly combo means the majority of its former patrons still prefer the White Salmon library... and avoid the Hood River library like the plague.
- Get rid of the creep-buzz-zoid.
- Rehire all former employees still willing to return.
- Repeatedly retrain the newbies until they comprehend that they're there for REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE.
- Cease trying to pretend it's a high-class winery and BE a living library... not a zombie shell of its former glory.

Good. It was pretty darn obvious it was a crooked vote, by unethical people, who have NO willingness to abide the will of the people who voted them in. It's time to remove them from City Council... and ban them from any power whatsoever.
How about we keep it natural and restrict access to only those who were born here AND whose parents were born here?
If it bothers the people in the chicken coop condos, please, by all means, let the trains idle there all you want. THAT's who/what we want to go away!
... you could always require them to put an active, working mill back. I'm sure the will-never-be-REAL-locals that are whining about this would just LOVE that. ;)
