Gorge Sinfonietta '1812 Overture' finale

Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association’s “By Request” concerts May 18 and 20 at Wy’East Middle School Performing Arts Center featured Gorge Sinfonietta with mountain dulcimer virtuoso Stephen Seifert of Nashville performing music director and conductor Mark Steighner’s debut of Concerto #2 for Mountain Dulcimer and Orchestra. In the video, watch as the orchestra provides an usual twist: at intermission, concertgoers were issued paper bags and prior to the concert finale, Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture”, Steighner gave the audience instructions for inflating and then popping the bags in time for the cascading explosions in the famed “cannon” climax. The final event in the CGOA season is “Chicago: The Musical” opening June 8 at Bingen Theater (gorgeorchestra.org)
