Ben's Babbles

It's all fun and games until the bears decide to get involved

Cross country is a difficult sport. Runners have to a) run for long distances and b) do that running on trails, over hills and through the woods. It's a bit of a challenge, which is why I respect them so much. Later this month, Columbia River Conference runners will have the always tough Indian Creek trail behind Hood River Valley high School to contend with at the district. It may be muddy, slick and hilly, but one thing the runners hopefully will not have to deal with is bears.

Yep, bears

The Vancouver Columbian has all the info in the link above about bear sightings during high school XC meets at LaCamas Park in Vancouver. The money quote:

"It's something that the kids will be talking about," Erdman said. "Anything that helps bring attention to cross country can't be all bad."

I suppose if you encounter a bear on the trail, it would pay to be the fastest runner on the course...or at least not the slowest.
