At Tuesday's Port meeting, commissioners Hoby Streich and Rich McBride decided to switch roles.
Streich has been serving as the Port vice-president and McBride as its secretary. However, McBride is next up in the Presidency rotation, and with his term expiring in May, Streich decided to resign the vice-presidency and nominated McBride to replace him. The move was in order for McBride to get some experience closer to the presidency role to decide if he wanted to run for office again in May.
After both men resigned their respective posts and were voted into their new ones, Streich asked McBride how he should refer to him in the future.
"Should I call you Rich, or Joe?" (as in Vice President Joe Biden), he asked.
"Just call me sir," McBride deadpanned.
McBride quickly flexed his new found power by swiping Streich's chair and name tag.
Later in the meeting during commission call, Streich praised port staff and fellow commissioners for their work while he had been absent saying it was like "they didn't even need him."
Given how the evening had gone so far, he might want to be careful saying things like that!
