Burning the Axe Handle

Cliff Dweller

"The roar of the river is still the same, boys."

Jan. 6

An old man lives in a house for decades, next to a field abutting a fast-moving river, but in time homes and a freeway fill the area. He either does not know or does not acknowledge that the sound coming from over the "cliff" -- a concrete freeway sound barrier -- is really an 8-lane freeway.

From notebooks full of random story ideas.

Like it? Take it, just let me know.

This is Burning The Axe Handle.
