The snow and ice storm that blew through last week threw one gigantic wrench into the winter high school sports schedule.

Schools spent Friday and Monday scrambling to come up with reschedule dates for canceled contests.

Hood River Valley basketball was scheduled to play postponed games vs. Pendleton from Jan. 17 on Jan. 24. However, that game was postponed again following snow Tuesday.

Postponed games vs. Hermiston from Jan. 20 were pushed back to Feb. 21, the final day of the regular season for basketball.

Horizon was forced to reschedule three games from last Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Horizon's games at Arlington from Jan. 20 were moved to Jan 25. Their games with Sherman and South Wasco from Jan. 17 and Jan. 21 will now become part of a stretch of six games in eight days at the end of January to the beginning of February.

The Hawks host Sherman Jan 31, South Wasco Feb. 1 and Condon Wheeler Feb. 3. They will then play at Dufur Feb. 4, host 3A Horizon Christian in a newly scheduled game on Feb. 6 and play at Central Christian Feb. 7.

The Hood River Valley swim team will not be rescheduling its Hood River Invitational, which was canceled Saturday. There are no open weekend dates on which to put the event before Hood River hosts the Columbia River Conference District meet Feb. 11.

Instead, HRV Athletic Director Keith Bassham said he was trying to get a third team to attend when the Eagles host St. Mary's Feb. 2.

The Hood River wrestling team was supposed to host Pendleton for HRV's senior night on Jan. 19, when nearly a month remained in the season. The Eagles will now host Pendleton in the second-to-last regular season match of the year on Feb. 8.

The Eagles close out the regular season at The Dalles the following night.

The Eagles had been scheduled to go to Stevenson over the weekend for a varsity tournament, however that was also cancelled due to the weather.

To make up for the missed matches, HRV?has scheduled a home meet against Elmira Friday at 7 p.m.
