Local author Vikki Claflin has released her third book, “Chin Hairs & Back Fat: Somewhere Between Tweezers, Yoga Pants & a Box of Wine,” now available on Amazon.

After turning 60, it occurred to her that she was no longer middle-aged. “Unless you’re going to live to be 120, you’re not middle-aged. Forty-50 is middle age. Sixty is old. Boomers are learning that ‘old’ is not a four-letter word. It’s okay to be old, because old can be fabulous,” Claflin said.

“Chin Hairs & Back Fat” is a new look at the pitfalls of being old and how to find the funny while living in a culture that worships youth. Claflin shows how to embrace age through laughter and self-acceptance. “Getting past the angst and the drama of youth, getting our kids out the door, and often downsizing to a simpler life has created a whole new lifestyle for Baby Boomers,” said Claflin. “We’re wise, we’re funny, and we’re necessary. And we still have a life in front of us. And if you’re looking for it, much of it will be hilarious.”

Written from a female perspective, Claflin also has a large male readership, who say it’s the perfect guidebook for the average man who doesn’t have a clue. She writes laugh-out-loud essays about how to shop for your wife (without screwing it up), how to tell if you’re a cougar or a crazy cat lady, what you should and shouldn’t have in your closet right now, and how to talk to your husband (without making him crazy).

Chock full of irreverent advice on marriage, how-to lists galore, and unabashed tales of her most embarrassing personal anecdotes about getting older in a youth-oriented society, Claflin shows the funny side of life in the big girls’ lane.

Ellen Dolgen, author of “Menopause Monday: The Girlfriend’s Guide to Surviving & Thriving During Menopause,” said in her review, “Another hilariously funny smash hit. The title grabs you right in the midlife section (sic)! It flows so effortlessly, you feel like you’re having a cocktail with your best friend and you don’t want it to end.”

Over the next several months, Claflin is scheduling speaking engagements and book readings around the Pacific Northwest.
