Split Sequoia

Friday night’s dramatic thunder-and-lightning storm split this 45-foot Sequoia tree in the yard of Pat and Susan Hartford of Thomsen Road. The lighting struck the tree about halfway up, showering wood for yards around. The Hartfords were in Hood River for the evening, and came home to find their yard strewn with debris. “It’s sad because it was a full and healthy tree,” Susan Hartford said, one they planted about 30 years ago. A Hood River Electric Co-op crew removed the tree Monday.
