At Saturday’s annual Unity Picnic hosted by Hood River Library, people enjoyed Mexican food, listened to music by Hood River Norteno quartet 6 Del Rio and posted words of beauty and hope as the library wrapped up its Summer Reading Program.
Children’s Librarian Rachel Timmons presented reading awards to youth participants, and guest artists Courtney Berens and Cynthia Caudill helped Kevin Solis, 9, and others paint rocks for placement around town (#HoodRiverRocks Facebook page).
Gorge Ecumenical Ministries hosted a “What Do You Want To Cultivate In The World” table. Words written on cloth were tied together and strung as a banner, as were pieces of paper on which people wrote “beautiful words” in any language. They included “Felicidad,” “fleur,” “music,” “love,” and “Jesus.” Below, a video of 6 Del Rio performing at the picnic.
