Members of the Hood River Police Department were involved three ways in this accident between two parked cars on State Street Nov. 19: Witness, investigators, and victim. Lieut. Don Cheli, center, and Officer Mike Martin look over a Toyota Tacoma that had been parked in front of Hood River Library when it rolled from its space, backed across traffic in a half-circle and collided five spaces away with a Mercedes owned by Officer Juan Pulido. Cheli said the emergency brake either was not set or disengaged, allowing the Tacoma to roll. (Pulido’s car received a large dent on its driver side; the car had recently been in the shop after it was rear-ended, according to Cheli.) A witness to the accident was parking enforcement officer Victor Garibo, who tried to stop the Tacoma, first with his foot against the bumper. He then attempted to get into the car to apply the emergency brake, but said it was moving too fast by that point. There were no citations.
