After a great state run for the HRV cross country teams two weekends ago, the varsity squad capped off their season at the Nike Cross National (NXR) event in Boise, Idaho.
“Boise was great,” said Head Coach Brandon Bartram. “This was our first time ever in this section of the NXR and we went out and ran some good races.”
The girls team placed 16th in the championship race, which featured 18 of the best teams from seven states: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Arkansas and Hawaii.
Frances Dickinson, a sophomore at HRV, led the way for the Eagles in the 5,000 Meters Championship finishing in 82nd out of 181 participants, with a time of 19 minutes and 29.58 seconds.
Right behind Dickinson in 83rd place was sophomore Lottie Bromham, who finished with a time of 19:31.32. Dickinson and Bromham were the only two girls for the Eagles to place inside the top-100.
In 119th place was Evelyn Nunez with her time of 20:08.21. Chloe Bullock, a freshman HRV runner, was the next Eagle to cross the finish line at 21:06.87 in 145th place.
Vada Joplin Clay, another freshman, earned a time of 21:35.78 and finished in 150th place. The last to score for the Eagles was sophomore Eva Jones in 157th place with a time of 22:45.51.
Katie Perkins, Chloe Clark and Josie Petersen also raced at the NXR meet, but in the girls 5,000 meters open invitational.
Perkins finished 199th with a time of 23:47.09. In 205th place was Clark, who ran a time of 24:12.91. Petersen concluded the race for the girls with a 211th finish and a time of 24:49.97.
The boys followed up the girl’s performance with a 20th place finish out of the 76 teams.
In the 5,000 meters open invitational, HRV’s Josh Haynes ran an impressive 17:05.14, earning him a spot inside the top-50 with a 48th overall finish.
Seniors Braxton Wilson and Finn Peterson broke the top-100 coming in at 71st and 99th place with times of 17:24.71 and 17:43.05.
Omar Quintana came in at 134th place with a time of 18:04.57, followed by freshman Oscar Powell, who finished in 161st place with a time of 18:19.50.
And in 191st and 208th place was Raine Melby and Travis Running. Melby, a sophomore at HRV, ran a 18:41.81 in the event and Running ended the boys’ day with a time of 18:50.56.
The NXR meet was the last of the season for most of these XC athletes.
“It was a great experience for everyone and a good way to cap off an impressive season,” said Bertram. But Frances and Josephine Dickinson still have one more left to go.
The Dickinsons have been invited to the Nike Border Clash event on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Beaverton at the Nike World Campus; this event brings in the best runners from Oregon and Washington to represent their state in an Oregon versus Washington event.
This event will conclude what was a strong HRV cross country season.
