Last Friday was a nice day for a track and field meet, except none were scheduled for that day.

Instead, area-school athletes had to compete under less-than-ideal weather conditions last Wednesday and Saturday at meets in White Salmon, Trout Lake, and Stevenson.

Following is a roundup of last Wednesday’s track and field action.

Columbia High senior Chandlor Bucklin sprinted to victory three times during last Wednesday’s 1A Trico League meet in Bruin Stadium.

Bucklin led 1-2 Bruin finishes in the 100- and 200-me-ter dashes (Alarick Blankenship was runner-up in both). Bucklin topped off his individual performance with a narrow win in the 400. His day ended when he carried the baton on the last leg of CHS’s victorious 4x400 relay.

Two-event winners on the day were Columbia freshmen Chanele Reyes (personal records in the 100 and 300 hurdles) and Hannah Polk-inghorn (100 and 200, PR in 100), and Lyle/Wishram jun-ior Brandon Montoya.

The latter posted a season’s best mark in the shot put and a PR in the javelin. He also scored a PR in placing fifth in the discus.

Montoya, a state champion sprinter and long jumper, has been unable to compete in those events so far due to a hamstring injury.

Klickitat senior Hunter Dawson also had a good day in the throws. He won the discus with a PR throw and placed third in the shot with a PR effort.

All told, Klickitat County athletes set 29 PRs in the boys meet and 10 PRs in the girls meet. CHS athletes accounted for the majority of those PRs.
